We're excited to announce that starting with Wing FTP Server v8.2.1, our enterprise-grade FTP server now supports FIPS 140-3, the latest U.S. government standard for validating cryptographic modules.
If you care about the security and compliance of your file transfers, just upgrade to Wing FTP Server v8.2.1+ and enable FIPS 140-3: https://www.wftpserver.com/download.htm

What is FIPS 140-3?

FIPS 140-3 (Federal Information Processing Standard Publication 140-3) is the current standard developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for validating the effectiveness of cryptographic modules. It replaces the older FIPS 140-2 standard and aligns with international encryption standards ISO/IEC 19790:2012 and ISO/IEC 24759:2017. Effective September, 2021, FIPS 140-3 is mandatory for all new validations under Cryptographic Module Validation Program (CMVP).

Key Benefits of FIPS 140-3

International Alignment

FIPS 140-3 aligns with ISO/IEC international standards, ensuring consistency with global encryption benchmarks and facilitating international acceptance.

Future-Proof Cryptography

FIPS 140-3 is designed to accommodate Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) algorithms, ensuring your cryptographic modules are prepared for the challenges posed by quantum computing attacks.

Independent Validation

FIPS-validated modules undergo independent testing by accredited laboratories, providing third-party verification that encryption and key management systems work as intended.

Industry-Wide Trust

While FIPS 140-3 is mandatory for U.S. government departments, and federal agencies, it has also been widely adopted as a security best practice in finance, healthcare, and other regulated industries.

How to Enable FIPS 140-3 in Wing FTP Server?

Enabling FIPS 140-3 in Wing FTP Server v8.2.1 or higher is simple:

1. Log in to the Wing FTP Server administration interface first.
2. Navigate to "Server > Settings > General Settings > Security", enable the option "Enable FIPS 140-3 Mode".
3. Save the changes and restart the Wing FTP Server service.

FIPS 140-3 Mode

Wing FTP Server's FIPS 140-3 implementation uses a validated cryptographic module (certificate #4985), ensuring that your HTTPS, FTPS, and SFTP file transfers meet the highest standards of cryptographic security.
