Help with error 550-This file is banned on server!

Post by david »

I have the strangest issue...

A user has complete access to a folder yet when files are uploaded or downloaded it produces an error: 550-This file is banned on server!

Here's some snippits from the log:

[07] Thu, 27 Jan 2011 18:53:09 (0002101) SSH_FXP_REMOVE: File name /ProtectedFiles/SAFETY_MEETING_MINUTES_NOV_9_2010.pdf

The log indicates that file has been blocked, please check the file access rules for domain / user / group.

There may be an exploit with the Wing FTP server.

The list of denied files was changed to allowed. Files such as *.exe, *.bat were denied and somehow magically changed to allowed. This caused all other file types to get denied as there wasn't a rule for allowing all other files.

I'm running 3.7.2

Any thoughts on this?

It sounds strange, please check the admin logs or domain logs, check whether someone else logged in your system.

I too experienced this problem but on v4.7.1

I set up a few file masks at the domain level, *.exe, *.com, *.bat etc.

This seemed to work OK for a while but then out of the blue the file masks were somehow reversed, all other file types except those specified as denied were then allowed!! e.g. could download use .exe files but .pdf was banned.

Removing the rules did not resolved the problem, the only way to resolve was to add a *.* - Allowed rule.

It seems to me that there is still a bug in the logic somewhere.

OK, first please upgrade to the latest version 4.7.3, and the IP access rules won't be reversed unless you modify them manually.
