Public key authentication failed

Postby BAHealthcare » Thu Sep 22, 2011 3:28 pm

We have been configuring our client organizations using SSH with RSA/DSA keys. Client organizations send us their Public key which we store and specify in their User account ("Enable password" is unchecked). We have not encountered any signficant problems with any of our clients until recently.

A major national organization that has extensive experience using SSH with RSA/DSA keys has provided their DSA public key but cannot seem to get past the authentication. We have worked with them to make sure everything seems to be configured correctly but we cannot figure out why Wing FTP refuses their private key.

Is there any way to get a more detailed log specifying whether the keys did not match or the password did not match or ??? How can we acquire more information to help us resolve this problem?

From their side they see:

Ssh2AuthPubKeyClient: Trying 2 key candidates.
Constructing and sending signature in publickey authentication.
Ssh2AuthPubKeyClient: reading private key C:\DOCUME~1\ecssched\Application Data\
F-Secure SSH\userkeys\BCBS_DSA
Ssh2Common: DISCONNECT received: Connection closed.
Authentication failed
Disconnected; connection lost (Connection closed.).

The only thing we see on our server side is:

[01] Wed, 14 Sep 2011 16:30:56 (0000040) SSH session receive user name:BCBS_LCCA
[01] Wed, 14 Sep 2011 16:30:56 (0000040) SSH session receive password of user BCBS_LCCA
[02] Wed, 14 Sep 2011 16:30:56 (0000040) Closed session,disconnected from xx.xx.xxx.xx. The reason is:Public key authentication failed.
