Unable to access FTP in passive mode

Post by danesp »

Hi,

I'm trying to figure out why a laptop running windows 7 (x64) is not able to access the FTP server in passive mode.
The error I get is:
"An error occurred opening that folder on the FTP server. Make sure you have permission to access that folder"
details:
200 type set to A
227 Entering Passive mode (192,168,1,13,4,19)

I am able to access the FTP folder in active mode (after I uncheck the passive FTP setting in internet options)
There are other users that are able to access in passive mode successfully.

- I setup forwarding correctly on the router
- FTP folder browsing setting in Internet options
- I added all the filters in the firewall

This also happens on a xp computer as well. But its not a common problem.

Is there a FTP server settings that this access failure is tied too?
Or, is it a setting within the client OS?

Does anyone have any ideas that can help me solve this?

thanks

Please check out http://www.wftpserver.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5

The key point is specifying IP for internet.

The link provided was very helpful and it solved my problem with passive mode access.
The issue was exactly what you pointed out "specifying IP address for internet".
So I set it up to retrieve the IP from a .php web file and now the Passive access is working.

Thank you very much

On a side note/question:
I have a dynamic FTP set up. I tried entering in the address (its a dyndns address-not dnsdns) in the "Dynamic DNS" box, but it refused access. I setup the dynamic dns on my router and it allowed me to enter a user/password for the "dyndns" site. I noticed that there was no option for that in the wing ftp pasv config screen.

Does the dynamic address have to end in a "dnsdns" for this to work?

Yes, it is a spelling mistake. Resolving dynamic domain name will be a little delay after registering it or updating it.
If you still can't resolve your dynamic domain name, just use retrieving the IP from a .php web file.
