Installation / Upgrade beginner

Post by sarusnet »

Hi y´all
I have a Thecus N5550 running and used the trail version which I have downloaded from the Thecus application site. Now I decided to buy the full version. My problems is now, I am not familiar with linux at all. I did the installation of the WingFTP Server over the UI from the NAS by simple execute a *.mod file.

Now as owner of the full version I am not able to install the recent files because there is no *.mod file anymore.
The installation for the linux version sounds simple, but its not if dont know linux at all and expect a *.mod file.

I was able to backup the /data folder via an ftp program. The next steps would be just run the installation, but how?

Please provide a step by step for a newbie to this.

Thanks so much

If you have full permissions on the Thecus device, then please have a look on this KB article: http://www.wftpserver.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=49" rel="nofollow

Thanks for your answer FTP,
but as I mentioned I am not used to Linux. I read this and other postings, but for an upgrade it says

1) Download the latest version from: http://www.wftpserver.com/download.htm" rel="nofollow" rel="nofollow -DONE
2) Backup your data files to a safe place (copy the whole "/Data" directory). - DONE
3) Stop the Wing FTP Server service. -DONE

So far so good. But the next and most important point is just:

4) Install the new version without any change.

Very helpful for a newbie who uses a *.mod file to install the demo version and has no clue about Linux.
I just need some help HOW I can install the files if I don not have the FTP running and no *.mod file.
I really do not have a any idea how to proceed. Where to save the file and how to run and install them via the Thecus.

As I said, simple if you know linux, but for me more than just cklicking on an *.exe file in windows.
Therefore I really would appreciate support with a little bit more than "just install it."

Thanks guys
