Authentication issues

Setup: I currently have wing FTP server on a windows machine and use my linux box (ubuntu server 12.04) as extra storage.

What I'm tying to do: Since my windows machine's extra HDD's are becoming full, I have a raid1 storage setup on my linux box. I have the raid1 setup as a shared drive and my windows machine can gain access to it. Can I get wing FTP to access this drive?

What I managed to do: It seems as if I type in the full network path into the directory for a user account in wing FTP to set as their home folder, wing FTP accepts the path. However, when the user tries to upload a file to their home path, they do not have access even though I checked all permissions in the directory setup pop-up in Wing FTP.

My question: Does the wing FTP user obtain its permissions from Wing FTP then the windows box's permissions to modify the directory on the linux box? If not, where do the permissions come from?

If you start the WingFTP with default system permissions, I think it can READ/WRITE to the hard disk, unless you do not have permissions in the Windows system either.
