A few questions from a Wingftp newbie.

I have a few questions i can't get an answer to when reading the manual:

• How can users connect to the ftp-server with the web-based interface? I know the ftp-address but what kind of http-address can i give them so they can up- and download stuff without a ftp-program?

• When they do connect; is it possible to upload more than 1 file at once? Most users want to upload complete folders.

• How do i connect to the administrators-panel with the webbased interface? I can connect as a user but not as an administrator.

Sorry if my questions seem kinda stupid.
Thanx for your time and help.
Kind regards,
André.

Hi,andre

On the first question, you can easily use the web-based interface by any web browsers, you will get to know just
about the http port number. Default is 80, and you also can find it out at "Domains->Settings->Listeners", so if
your http port is 8080, type the address in the web browser http://YourIP:8080.

The second question, only ftp client can upload several files at once, web-based client can not, you can upload
files one by one.

The third question, i don't know what's your meaning...

Darn, that's a shame. Most users want to upload complete folders and don't even know how to .zip their files. :-(

When i, after installing, started Wingftp-server, i had to make an Administrator account to be able to log in and manage user accounts and set up the Wingftp-preferences. Is it possible to access the administrator-login panel in the same way ftp-users can log-in to their ftp-account? That would make it possible to manage Wingftp-server from every computer with an online connection.

Thanx for your help. Again. :-)
Kind regards,
André.

You can use the Web-based Administration through web browsers from any computer on a local network, or remote network.

Hi Andre,

The web based administration can be accessed locally or remotely via a separate port number. The default port is 5466. You'll have to add a colon and the port number at the end of your address. For example, on your local network you would type "http://yourftpserverip:5466" and that will take you to the admin login page. Remotely the address will be similar except you will type your external ip address "http://yourexternalip:5466". You will also have to configure your router to forward port 5466 to your ftp servers local address for remote access to work. I would suggest that you visit dyndns.com or something similar if you want to access remotely. There you can get a free dynamic host name and most routers will update them automatically with a little configuration too. If not you can get their free updater software to run on the server. It will link your external ip to a host name of your choice. Such as, "myftpserver.gotdns.com". Then instead of always looking up your ip or trying to remember it you just have to type "http://myftpserver.gotdns.org:5466" to get to the admin account. Or your users can just type "http://myftpserver.gotdns.org" to get to the user login. Oh by the way, if you don't like the default port for the admin account you can change that too. Go to Administration on the left hand column and select settings. Then go to listener and change the HTTP port to whatever you like. I hope this helps you.

Hi,

It is our design for safe, so the web administration and web client are separated from each other.
