SSH public key authentication

Hi,
How does SSH public key authentication work with Wing FTP Server? Can't find any documentation.
Reason: I have a client who has sent me their SSH public key. I have placed it in a folder and set the path in the users general settings. When the client logs in, they are being asked for a password. It appears to me, that the server is asking for the SSH password (I've verify that the account password is working correctly). My client says it should not be asking for a password and they have stated that they don't have this problem with other vendors. The client wants automatic login using their public key. Will Wing FTP do this?
If I use a SSH key that I generated and setup in the key manager, I get automatic login (the server knows the password). I also tested a public/private key pair generated with puttygen, but with these I must enter the key password to connection.
Thanks.
